چکیده

Some very difficult questions in finite geometry (for example, concerning ovoids, spreads, and extensions) have fairly trivial resolutions in the infinite case, by standard transfinite induction. We give some old and new results of this kind, and a number of open questions. The paper is expository in nature, and is intended to illustrate the technique rather than give the most general applications.

Boundary Element Formulation of Harmonic Coordinates

We explain how Boundary Element Methods (BEM) can be used to speed up the computation and reduce the storage associated with Harmonic Coordinates. In addition, BEM formulation allows extending the harmonic coordinates to the exterior and makes possible to compare the transfinite harmonic coordinates with transfinite Shepard interpolation and Mean Value Coordinates. This comparison reveals that ...

Noncommutative Geometry, Negative Probabilities and Cantorian-fractal Spacetime

A straightforward explanation of the Young’s two-slit experiment of a quantum particle is obtained within the framework of the Noncommutative Geometric associated with El Naschie’s Cantorian-Fractal transfinite Spacetime continuum.

Fibers of Tropicalization

We use functoriality of tropicalization and the geometry of projections of subvarieties of tori to show that the fibers of the tropicalization map are dense in the Zariski topology. For subvarieties of tori over fields of generalized power series, points in each tropical fiber are obtained “constructively” using Kedlaya’s transfinite version of Newton’s method.

A Rapidly Convergent Nonlinear Transfinite Element Procedure for Transient Thermoelastic Analysis of Temperature-Dependent Functionally Graded Cylinders

In the present paper, the nonlinear transfinite element procedure recently published by the author is improved by introducing an enhanced convergence criterion to significantly reduce the computational run-times. It is known that transformation techniques have been developed mainly for linear systems, only. Due to using a huge number of time steps, employing the conventional time integration me...

Creating mathematical infinities: Metaphor, blending, and the beauty of transfinite cardinals

The infinite is one of the most intriguing, controversial, and elusive ideas in which the human mind has ever engaged. In mathematics, a particularly interesting form of infinity—actual infinity— has gained, over centuries, an extremely precise and rich meaning, to the point that it now lies at the very core of many fundamental fields such as calculus, fractal geometry, and set theory. In this ...
